That's a laugh. Cuba is mired in poverty and their people would be starving if not for Oil money from Venezuela a country on the brink of Starvation and collapse which is why Raul is pivoting to the US. Venezuela doesn't have an Economy anymore just a poorly run oil company.

No where is perfect, but when you embargo Wilma small island like Cuba what do you expect? Raul isn't pivoting to the us.With the white supremacist government America had with Batista being removed by the communists there Cuban culture is an amazing mix. Me having Having Cuban ancestry myself, it is easy to say that though poor, they have one thing most Americans jacked up on anxiety medication ect aren't, a joy of living. Revolutions to liberate afrucab countries Cubans were always there, when Nelson Mandela was freed the first person he visited was Fidel Castro. Problems in pillipenes, hait ect the cubans were always there. Now I don't know why people hated Chavez so much, I'd like to know your opinion on that. But as far as Venezuela itself goes I never concerned myself too much with it. I wouldn't call venezeulans communists.

The problem is Cuba has access to trade with other economies around the world. It's only really the US that has an Embargo on Cuba and while that would certainly handicap a country economically Cuba could certainly being doing a lot better than it is today. The problem is the Cuban Regime and it's control over the Cuban economy and if it wasn't for Hugo Chavez coming to the rescue with Oil money in the late 90's the Cuban people would have continued to starve like they did during the Special Times after they lost their backer in the USSR. They're hoping that such a close and large economy as the US can sustain the Cuban economy just enough to keep the regime afloat. I'm certain that Cubans have their fair share of problems and anxiety as anyone else. How big of any impact did Cuba have on the Philippines and Haiti? When a disaster hits usually the first and biggest responder is the United States. When people try to flee Haiti they usually take a much longer trip to get to the US then go to Cuba.

As to Venezuela it's not communist because no country in the world is, or has been truly communist not even Cuba. Real Communism is a farse. Chavez basically took advantage of the Oil boom of the last decade to finance various and quite popular Social Programs and he did improve the lives of the poor for a time. The problem is this was all wholly dependent on one resource and he had no plans for creating a sustainable system. First he expropriated property which scared away foreign investment and filled the ranks of the state owned Oil company with loyalist instead of experts which is why it produces less oil today then it did before he took Office in 1998. He then consistently attacked the private sector economy stealing property and setting up more rules and regulations. Even with an Oil boom Hugo Chavez racked up enormous budget deficits not learning any of the lessons of previous Oil booms and busts. This was such common knowledge just before Chavez came into office the government of Venezuela set up a saving system to prevent overspending during a boom which Chavez sidelined. So in order to pay the countries debt they started printing money which caused inflation. Which is nothing more than a tax. Not liking that people would raise prices to deal with the inflation he set up currency exchange and price controls to try and hide inflation, but importers and business were savvy to this and instead of selling at a loss decided to stop selling goods in the country at all. This further hurt the Venezuelan economy. The only way to do business in Venezuela was either through the Black Market, or access to Petro dollars. The Oil sector accounts for more than 96% of Venezuela's eocnomy today which is a huge problem since the Oil Boom ended. People have to either have a lot of money to buy off the black market, or a lot of time to wait in grocery lines all day for goods that might not even be there. To ensure that his legacy would continue Chavez packed the Military and Courts with Loyalist so they'd support his party. Nicholas Maduro the successor of Chavez has been using the courts to attack opponents and I wouldn't be surprised after the December election don't go his way he'll have the military keep him in power. Unless a miracle happens it's almost a certainty that Venezuela will default on it's loans next year and lead to complete financial ruin for the country and mass starvation.

You're right, it is bullshit.

It was only 20 million. And it isn't a contest about who killed more people; capitalism or communism... or religion for some reason you mentioned... it's about the intent behind it.

And behind you may strike out, I'm not calling for a debate.

Not as near as many as socialism and communism has killed. (Hilter was a full socialist, Stalin was commist and killed more people than hitler did, also Chairman Mao killed quite a few people.

The numbers are staggering. Not even all the deaths in wars by Capitalism countires add up the billions of people that communist and socialists have killed.

but yet again, tumblr harbors some crazy commie lovers. there is nothing wrong with the idea of wanting everyone to be equal, but due to humanities nature, "true" communism will never be achieved. plus communism (even on paper) also restricts peoples freedoms, which is wrong.

Capitalism isn't perfect, but its far better than any other social system we have currently, and as we all know, nothing is perfect.

To all of the communist supporters on this comment section, please explain why so many communist states JUST HAPPEN to harbor dictatorships  consistently. Case in point: Soviet Union with Joseph Stalin commencing the Purge of all opposition of his regime, leading to the deaths of several million people. Communist China with Mao Zedong and his Red Guard with their anti-freedom and anti-human rights (and please explain to me how a one-party system which condemns opposition with death is a good thing) and Mao's ingenious (at least according to communists) Great Leap Forward which brought in a death toll +20 million (according to communists, these are just statistics {heartless bastards}). Considering how communists applaud the works of communist states, I'm sure they have a limit when talking about North Korea. A Stalinist-type communist state, even mere whispers of discontent towards the North Korean government results in execution, most of the food is diverted to the elite of the nation (just look at the fat ass that is Kim Jong-un). I think this sums up North Korea's "excessive freedoms" (quoted by some communists) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_ri… Also, my family has experience under communist rule. My grandfather fled Hungary during the Hungarian Revolution (if communism was so good, why did he flee from the country when communism was forcing its way into the country? Can't answer that? Thought so.) Only a heartless prick would defend those communist regimes' mass murders. Wait, it's a discussion on communism

One of the reasons communism almost never works also is because it's people giving everything they have to the state which is lead by some proletariat leader who may or may not have a good grip of politics. Giving all of your power and possesions to the state is just never a good idea. That facilitates totalitarian style regimes better.

But lol it's a discussion on communism although it has been shown repeatedly to fail and fail and fail as an ideology the majority of the time apparently none of those times was anyone "doing it right". So that means that the no true scotmans argument is perfectly fine to use as an argument against anti communists /Sarcasm off lol.

The ideology of Communism is fundamentally flawed if it doesn't take the human side of the equation into account. Even if we had the perfect, selfless, hard working Socialist Human beings Communism economically is structurally flawed and could never sustainably operate, at least not a large advanced modern economy.

Yes, but this time we abide by the principles that Communism was SUPPOSED to be as Karl Marx stated it and we'll might end up with a Classless, Moneyless and Stateless social order. That is called Marxism by the way, the Communism that killed 100 Million people is known as Stalinism and Leninism.

I think you mean Stalinism, which is the ideal that Stalin created and was followed by Minh and the Kim dynasty, while Mao was a Maoist.
Purest Marxism or Leninism, which is true Communism, has never existed.

Because "the purest Marxism" is impossible to introduce due to human nature.

Since the Soviet Union, its vassal states, People's Republic of China and North Korea failed in building such regimes, it should be lesson for everyone that "the true communism" cannot work as system.

As I said, they were not following Marxism. China followed Maoism, a philosophy built on Stalinism. Stalinism also inspired Vietnam and North Korea. Marxism had virtually no role in this.

And I realise Marxism is impossible, but does that mean we can't appreciate the beauty of his vision? Wonderland does not exist, but can we not marvel at how beautiful it is? Willy Wonka's chocolate factory does not exist, but can we not imagine how amazingly magical it is?
