I'm pretty sure capitalism killed at least as much, even if it was in a far less cruel or gruesome way.

The death toll of capitalism, however is much larger and is still growing.

Capitalism has only killed about 300 million people which doesn't include the near 80 million Indians and Spanish that were slaughtered when white men came to America.

Heard heard, personally I think communism is a bit too radical, but socialism is my cup of tea We need it now, more than ever! Look at the world as it stands: financial crises, merciless consumption of nature and great energy usage on the creation of unneccessery products, which are more or the less useless.

Most of the time.
There are many different kinds of capitalism, so hating the current system (the "financial" capitalism) doesn't mean you're necessary against the capitalism as a whole.

I don't see any regime in the past that can not be seen as either a special form of communism or a special form of capitalism.
Those were of course very different from the capitalism and communism of today, but the basic philosophy tends to remain the same : either the community/state prevails over the individual/private organization, or it's the opposite.

And social-democracy? As see it as trying to find a compromise by mixing some elements of the two (with more from capitalism, actually).

Now I don't claim to be some kind of universal expert in economy or history, so if you see any example that proves me wrong, I would very gladly hear it.

we never had real communism on our planet.
we had countries and states wich were on the way to socialism but far away from communism.
btw capitalism simply can't work !!!
